DOM for the currently selected element\n[backend/views/TraceUpdates](https://github.com/facebook/react/tree/main/packages/react-devtools-shared/src/backend/views/TraceUpdates): highlights the DOM when a component renders/updates\n\nwe can possibly refactor the same to use a unified canvas based approach, TraceUpdates was already migrated to canvas at some point, but Highlighter still injects DOM nodes.\n\nShared geometry already exists in `views/utils.js` (getNestedBoundingClientRect, getElementDimensions, mergeRectOffsets, extractHOCNames), used by both views.\n\nThe DOM based code benefit is it renders the box model (nested translucent margin / border / padding / content bands) easily using CSS borders, along with collision avoidance. so not sure if its worth refactoring \n\nthough i ;\n}\n```\n\nIt appears the the compiler makes an assumption that anything prefixed with `_` is a host / built-on component [here](https://github.com/facebook/react/blob/557e28fae7cbd4cf2714d556f6d8a3a42f7d8ce2/compiler/packages/babel-plugin-react-compiler/src/HIR/BuildHIR.ts#L3412). The `_`-prefix is admittedly an unconventional naming choice, but it's valid JavaScript and **worked fine before React Compiler**. The breakage is silent and surprising: React's convention is that lowercase tags are host components, a leading underscore followed by a capital letter is not lowercase, so a reader (and the JSX runtime) reasonably reads `<_Bar>` as a component, not a host element. The new `logComponentRender` (called from `commitPassiveMountOnFiber`) recursively walks props in `addObjectToProperties` / `addValueToProperties` and reads `value.$$typeof` **without try/catch**. For a cross-origin Window any property access throws `SecurityError`, corrupting the work-in-progress fiber.\n\nThis is **not** the React DevTools extension issue (#29011) — `logComponentRender` is part of the **native DEV-build performance logger introduced in 19.2**. It runs unconditionally in development, **without any browser extension**.\n\n**React version:** 19.2.5 (`react@19.2.5`, `react-dom@19.2.5`)\n\n## Steps To Reproduce\n\n1. Bootstrap a fresh Vite + React 19.2.5 app: `npm create vite@latest -- --template react-ts`, then install `react@19.2.5` and `react-dom@19.2.5`.\n2. Replace `App.tsx` with the code from the **Link to code example** section below.\n3. Run `npm run dev` and open the page in Chrome (any recent version).\n4. Right after mount the page freezes — clicks and inputs do nothing.\n5. Open DevTools console and see two errors stacked:\n - `Uncaught SecurityError: Failed to read a named property '$$typeof' from 'Window'` at `logComponentRender` → `commitPassiveMountOnFiber`\n - `Uncaught Error: Should not already be working.` at `performWorkOnRoot`\n\nReproduces 100% in DEV-build.
